| If you do not rebuild engines for a living or are not known to the buyer as a reputable engine builder, then to the person you are trying to make a deal with you are just another guy who rebuilt his own engine which sends up all sorts of red flags in the mind of someone who doesnt know you from Adam (Eden). It is not a put down, I am giving you the reality of what is going to happen. As far as a buyer is concerned, anybody can say they did a great job and know what they are doing, but unless you have a business with a reputation and money on the line riding on the quality of your handiwork, no one with any brains is going to put much stock in what you say. Personally, I wouldnt even mention the rebuild. I'd let them drive the car, see how well it runs, how strong it pulls, check it out and verify there are no leaks or problems, and if they ask about rebuilds/history THEN disclose it to them. I don't understand why people seem to think this "x miles on the chassis, BUT ONLY x MILES ON THE MOTOR" statement is valuable as something to tout. It really isn't. What it suggests is that maybe the car wasn't well maintained, or worse, abused for most its life and they are being spared the expense of remedying the poor maintenance/abuse of the motor.....but what aboout everything else? brakes, suspension, transmission, driveline, ancillary systems, etc. It is no secret these motors are good for 250k+ miles if maintained properly and not subject to abuse.
Volunteer less information and let the car do the talking. If it is in as good shape mechanically and cosmetically as you claim or feel, then you won't have to do much talking yourself, just truthfully answering any questions that the car doesn't answer on its own.
